- Flights to the UK from outside, on a UK or EU airline.
- Flights to the EU on a UK airline, unless you got compensation under EU law there.
Eligibility
- Delay length
- 3 hours or more at arrival at your final destination. On flights over 3,500 km, 3 to under 4 hours late may be halved.
- Distance bands
- Great-circle distance decides the band. Rerouted and arriving within 2, 3 or 4 hours of the original time (by band): 50% reduction.
- Notice
- Cancellations announced 14 days or more before departure don't qualify.
- Airline size
- Airline size doesn't matter under UK261.
- Extraordinary circumstances
- No compensation for extraordinary circumstances (Art. 5(3)), such as weather, air traffic control or security risks.
Claim deadline
The CAA says you can usually claim up to 6 years after the flight in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 5 years in Scotland. If the airline refuses, use its approved ADR scheme or the CAA.

If none of these rules covers your flight, the Montreal Convention (Art. 19) may still let you claim proven costs caused by an international delay, up to 6,303 SDR per passenger, within 2 years.
